"Considering Matthew Shepard" is a 90-minute concert musical which uses diary entries, news reports, and police reports to tell the story of Matthew Shepard, a student at the University of Wyoming who was kidnapped, beaten, and left to die on a fence in rural Wyoming on October 6, 1998 because of his sexual identity. This composition is not just a sad retelling of his story, but a call for the audience and our community to find ways to love and respect each other, no matter who we are and what we believe. The piece ultimately ends with hopefulness for a brighter future. |

My Favorite Things
Saturday, May 11 at 5:00 pm First Lutheran Church, Minot - Free Concert Sunday, May 12 at 3:00 pm Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck - Free Concert This year, Dakota Pro Musica is taking a slightly different approach to our Mother's Day weekend concerts, and instead of a 20-voice choir, we are presenting a small chamber ensemble concert featuring some of the most talented musicians in Central North Dakota. We have vocal faculty members from Minot State University, University of Jamestown, and University of Mary, and instrumentalists who are members of the Bismarck Mandan Symphony and the Minot Symphony Orchestra. All the repertoire for the My Favorite Things concerts was inspired by the famous song from The Sound of Music. We decided to find pieces of music about: coffee, flowers, cats (and other animals), our children, memories of our own mothers, self-care, and Faith. It was an enjoyable way to put together a concert and allowed for us to show off the talents of our amazing musicians. |
